Readings :

  • Prabal Chakrabarty
Our guest speaker, Prabal Chakrabarty, read a self composed story based on the Marxism era in Calcutta. The main characters, Sukanta and Prakriti were in love and shared their faith in communism. However, they parted ways after a few years due to a difference of opinion. Many years later, their daugher and son meet, by the will of Providence, in a different country and a different political setting. They marry each other.
The story was vividly narrated, and provoked a lively discussion on the political scenario of the Left Wing over a few decades. The reading also led to a lot of discussions about communism, Marxism and how they have affected the world, including the Naxalite movement in India.

The members thanked Prabal for his presentation.

  • Ramen Bagchi
Ramen Bagchi read some excerpts from a story named "Bhram" by Saranjeet Chakrabarty, published recently in Desh magazine.
The story revolves around the lives of Aran, a young middle class man and June, a rich woman. June leaves Aran to marry another man who is both rich and influential. By co-incidence, Aran and June meet again and resume their relationship - only to be discovered by the readers in the end that June had been manipulating Aran to get her own way out of a personal crisis.
The story brought out the dilemma of the main characters.

A self composed poem was read by Ramen Bagchi, based on this story.
